MEETINGS2nd Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in Pullman City Hall.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESReceive public input on matters pertaining to police service and make recommendations to the Chief of Police based on that input. Advise and make recommendations to the Chief of Police on matters relating to the provision of police protection, services, and programs, taking into consideration the financial and staff resources available. Function as a sounding board for the Chief of Police on various issues or concerns involving the Department and the community, both on specific incidents and on broader matters of policy and procedure. Make recommendations to the Chief of Police on the promotion of public awareness.
BACKGROUNDCommunity oriented policing begins with a partnership between the police department and the citizens it serves. Any partnership requires a regular and open flow of information, opinions, ideas, and suggestions. To this end, the Pullman Police Advisory Committee acts as an important resource to the Chief of Police. Formed in 1992, the Committee is comprised of citizens from various Pullman communities. The Committee meets once each month to address community concerns or matters that the public or committee members have brought for discussion. The meetings are open and the minutes are public. Among the committee''s accomplishments are continuing reviews of department policies, perceived bias in enforcement, city noise ordinances, and emergecy vehicle response capability.
