The city has scheduled the swearing-in ceremony for Pullman’s new Police Chief Gary Jenkins for 8 a.m. Friday (7/30/10) in the City Council Chambers.

            Jenkins was selected for the position in May.  He successfully passed an extensive background check, along with a psychological test and polygraph.  The mayor’s appointment of Jenkins was confirmed by the City Council on Tuesday, July 20. 

            The new chief was captain of the Claremont, Calif. Police Department, a university community, and served that department for more than 26 years before accepting the new position in Pullman.

            Jenkins holds a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Redlands and a master’s degree in educational leadership from San Diego State University.  In addition, he has taught criminal justice courses online through the University of Phoenix.
