· Ever wonder where the cops are when you want them?
· How many Police Officers are on duty tonight?
· What happens to the noise complaint after I call it in?
· Why did two police cars show up at my traffic stop?
· Why didn’t they take fingerprints at my crime scene?
· What is the real story behind DNA?
· I want to ride “shotgun” in a Pullman Police Car on Saturday Night of Game Day!
· I’m thinking about Law Enforcement as a career.
Beginning Sept. 24, the Pullman Police Department will be hosting their Citizens’ Academy, a program designed to give community members insight into the form and function of the police department.
The Citizens’ Academy is a scaled down version of a standard police academy. In ten, 2 1/2 hour sessions, participants will learn about field operations, use of force, investigations (CSI), Drug enforcement, Alcohol Enforcement, DUI, and Firearms, to name a few topics.
The purpose of this program is not to turn citizens into police officers, but to open the doors of the police department and invite the public in to inform them of how police actually go about the daily functions in Pullman.
The Pullman Police Department firmly believes in and supports the citizens of Pullman learning more about the Pullman PD’s philosophy and objectives. “Our goal is to develop better communications with the Pullman community. If they understand how we do our job, the public safety of our community will be better served,” says Patrol Operations Commander Chris Tennant.
The Academy will be held one Wednesday night per week beginning on September 24th and running through December 3rd.
