2007 Reserve Academy
During the 2007 recruit academy, a digital camera is being used to document the training that is teaching our next generation of firefighters.
The training that was captured on film includes:
- Ladders/Search and Rescue
Ladders/Search and Rescue
The purpose of ladder training is to get all the firefighters familiar how to safely and quickly raise ladders to assist fighting fires and rescuing people. This includes knowing what ladder to use. Where to place the ladder, and how to safely get victims down the ladder.
The purpose of search and rescue training just like it sounds -- crawling through the building looking for people who need rescuing. There are specific ways that firefighters do searches to make sure all the rooms are searched, that the victims are found, and the firefighters remain safe during the search.
Search and Rescue training is one of the most important lessons these firefighters will learn during the academy. It is the search and rescue training and practice that will help to save peoples' lives.
Before the start of training all the recruits orderly stack their personal protective equipment and make sure they have an SCBA to use for the day. 
Recruit Stallcop climbs to the third floor of the training tower to bring the firefighters inside the tower an Attic ladder. 
Recruits Gribbon, Wilson, and Gecas stand outside the tower after completing an evolution involving search and rescue. 
A recruit works his way out of a collapse simulator. It is a small space with many 2x6 boards crisscrossing making the firefighter crawl under and over these obsticles. 
With the heat of the environment, the heat of the turnouts, and the physical activity, it is important for firefighters to drink water and cool down so they can be ready to go back inside and work some more. Recruits C. Dearth, A. Wilcox, and Gribbon stay in the shade after their drill was done.

FF Southern instructs several recruits about using and placing ladders at a fire scene.
