Definitions
| Minor | Anyone under 21 years of age |
| Gross Misdemeanor | Crime punishable by up to 1 year in jail and/or a $5,000 fine |
| Misdemeanor | Crime punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine |
| Infraction | Offense punishable only by fine, not incarceration |
Laws
- Furnishing Alcohol To Minors - RCW 66.44.270(1)
- Is a gross misdemeanor
- Makes it illegal to either:
- Provide alcohol to minors
- Provide minors with a place to consume alcohol
- Minor in Possession of Alcohol - RCW 66.44.270(2)(a)
- Is a gross misdemeanor
- Makes it illegal for any minor to possess, consume, or otherwise acquire any liquor.
- Alcohol Consumption or Open Containiner in Public - PCC 5.55.010
- Infraction (1st-$250 Subsequent-$500)
- Makes it illegal to consume alcohol or possess an open alcohol container in any public area regardless of age.
- Minor in Public Place Exhibiting the Effects of Having Consumed Alcohol - RCW 66.44.270(2)(b)
- Is a gross misdemeanor
- Makes it illegal for any minor to be in a public place, or to be in a motor vehicle in a public place, while exhibiting the effects of having consumed liquor
- Minors Frequenting Off-Limits Areas - RCW 66.44.310
- Is a misdemeanor
- Makes it illegal for:
- Liquor establishments (i.e. bar) to serve minors alcohol or allow them on their premises.
- Minors to enter or remain in a liquor establishment.
- Minors to misrepresent their age (lie/use a fake I.D.) to buy alcohol or gain access to liquor establishments.
- Sales to Intoxicated Persons - RCW 66.44.200
- Makes it illegal to:
- Sell alcohol to an intoxicated person (misdemeanor)
- Buy or consume alcohol in a liquor establishment while intoxicated ($1025 infraction)
- Makes it illegal to:
- Bringing Liquor in from out of State - RCW 66.12.120
- Makes it illegal to bring more than 2 liters of wine, 2 liters of spirits and 288 ounces of beer into the state more than once per calendar month without paying tax and markup to the State of Washington.
